ETHERMA GSN – in mastic asphalt

Heating mat for installation in mastic asphalt

  • Planning of the project and custom-made production
  • Connection line, custom-made
  • Perfect stitching technology guarantees a safe fitting
  • Support netting prevents the heating mat from floating
  • Wear warning
  • Increased robustness through improved bend and pull characteristics

Description

Designed for open area heating within mastic asphalt. The GSN heating mat consists of a glass fibre and armoured braid, onto which a dipole heat conductor is sewn. The allowable temperature of the appliance is 240°C for 35 minutes.

The glass fabric net for armouring the cables prevents the heating cable from floating up within the mastic asphalt. The installation must be with the glass fabric net facing upwards.

Due to the advanced stitching technology with Kevlar-threads, a 100% solid installation and the stability of the heating mat is guaranteed. The mat needn’t be fixed to the baselayer. The optimum thickness of the asphalt is 2 x 2 cm and must be applied in 2 steps. The heating conductor is resistant to spherical acid and base.

installation in mastic asphalt to keep car park entrance ramps, emergency access routes,
entrance areas, etc. clear of snow and ice.

Selection Guide

  • 250 W/m² – For smaller private ramps, driveways, patios, terraces and pavements.
  • 300 W/m² – For public ramps, driveways and pavements, parking garages, landing pads, and much more.

Installation

A shallow installation gives a safe and efficient system

There is a proportional relationship between the installation depth of the heating cables, the heating response time and the operating costs. The deeper the heating cables are embedded, the longer the heating time until the defrost surface temperature reaches 3°C. A shallow installation is therefore essential for safety and to ensure lower operating costs.

Heating requirements

Depending on the application: the entire area can be heated which is usually the case in public areas; or for private installations, focused heating is often sufficient to keep a lane free which saves on installation and running costs.

Heating capacity

The required heating capacity per m² of surface area depends on the installation depth, the characteristics of the surface material, and the local climatic conditions.

Intelligent controls

Intelligent open area heating control detects the temperature and humidity of the surface and calculate the heating required, thus ensuring a fully automated, safe and cost-optimized use of the system.

The sensor records the current temperature and the snowfall. In order to switch on the heating, the ambient temperature has drop below the set temperature and the set humidity has to be exceeded. This saves operating costs.
